We lab tested vanilla extract from major brands via
Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectroscopy
also known as GC-MS. Not all vanilla extract
labeled "pure" is high quality vanilla!
The results clearly show some vanilla extract labeled "pure" is very similar or identical to low quality vanilla.
***SHOCKING RESULTS***
High quality vanilla extract has lots of identifiable flavor profiles which can be seen with all the peeks. High quality vanilla extract has well over 20 identifiable flavor profiles which results in much more flavor. This type of vanilla extract has not been created in a lab. The highest peek is Vanillin. Expect the Vanillin amount to be 7 million to 8 million.
Low quality vanilla extract has fewer and lower peeks. This is an indication of lower quality vanilla. Low quality vanilla extract has much fewer identifiable flavor profiles which results in less flavor. This type of vanilla extract has been created in a lab or lab altered.
This is what quality vanilla extract looks like. Vanillin is impressive at 7 million.
This is what high quality vanilla extract looks like. Vanillin is a respectable 8 million.
Low quality vanilla extract. Only 10 flavor compounds
identified. Vanillin is only 4.9 million.
Low quality vanilla extract. Vanillin is only 3.7 million.
It is not made with Bourbon. Bourbon refers to the type of vanilla bean.
Low quality vanilla extract. Vanillin is only 4.2 million
This graph is nearly identical to Rodelle vanilla. Vanillin is 7.1 million
This graph is nearly identical to Monarch vanilla which is labeled as "imitation". Vanillin is 6.7 million
According to the lab this vanilla has a significant amount of propylene glycol. No other sample contained propylene glycol.
The Vanillin amount is 39 million which is over 4x higher than any other sample we have tested.
